Lefkada and its wines
Lefkada is a large, fertile island with much to offer visitors and residents alike: impressive landscapes, long golden beaches, traditional villages, a charming capital, archaeological sites and museums, local cuisine and wines made from its own traditional grape varieties.
The two most famous of these, Vardea and Vertzami, are grown only in Lefkada. The white Vardea is cultivated in the south of the island, in the villages of Agios Petros, Sivros, Vassiliki and Kontarena, and to a lesser extent in Marantohori. Lefkaditiki Gi uses it to make its “Lefkadian Land White”, an award-winning wine with many devoted fans.

Seeing how something is made always has its charm, and even more so when it is wine. A visit to Lefkaditiki Gi is an easy way to add a touch of flavour to your holiday. The guided tour is both pleasant and informative, and lasts from 20 minutes to an hour, depending on the time and interest of each visitor.
- Wine-making traditionsThe tour starts with a short talk on how wine was traditionally made and vines were grown in Lefkada, followed by an exhibition of old wine-making and farming tools.
- The olive oil roomIn the building next door, a room is dedicated to olive oil, how it is produced and the olive press. To see a traditional olive oil factory up close, visit Fabbrica, the olive oil museum in nearby Syvros.
- A walk through the vineyardAfter the exhibition, a path through the vineyard leads visitors to the winery itself.
- The wineryHere, know-how and state-of-the-art equipment come together to produce the wines of Lefkaditiki Gi, and visitors can follow the whole process, from fermentation to bottling.
- Wine tastingAfter the walk among the aromatic vines of the area, the tour ends in the tasting hall, where visitors can savour the wines and buy bottles from the winery’s selection.
Getting there
How to reach “Lefkas’ Earth”
The winery is in the south of the island, at the 8th km of the Nydri – Vassiliki road. Coming from Nydri, it is on your right, just 500 m after the Sivros crossroad. It is 24 km from Lefkada town, 8 km from Nydri and 12 km from Vassiliki.
